July 22, 2017 will be the culmination of a five-year project by four students in Cary, NC to produce a free card game to teach children about the coral reef ecosystem and how individual lifestyle decisions can help or hurt these important but vulnerable environments. The pubic is invited to the celebration of the formal launch of the game, H2O’s St. John Coral Reef Deck, which will be held from 3:00-5:00 PM on Saturday, July 22 in the Fellowship Hall of the Triangle Center for Spiritual Living, 559 Jones Franklin Road, Suite 107, Raleigh, NC 27606. At the celebration, people will have the first public opportunity to play the finished game, to meet the game developers, and to learn more about coral reefs. The celebration will also honor the donors who gave funds that enabled the students to spend a week studying the coral reefs with coral research scientists at the Virgin Islands Environmental Resource Station (VIERS) at Lameshur Bay on St. John. In exchange for the crowdfunding support, the students are making the game available for free download and self-printing at https://healingoceanstogether.wordpress.com/our-game. People can buy a professionally published version of the game at: https://www.thegamecrafter.com/games/h20-s-st.-john-coral-deck.
